My trip to Best Buy

I had a Best Buy gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket, and despite the fact I can’t usually find anything good there, last night I hit the jackpot.

sonic youth’s new album is the best in a long time, I’d all but given up on them, but when I heard that Jim O’Rourke had joined the band, I had to check it out… It’s more like “Daydream Nation” than anything before or since, and that’s a good thing.

The Pixies have released the “Purple Tape” on CD, it’s not a must-have, but any Pixies fan will enjoy hearing these “Come On, Pilgrim” outtakes, most of which were re-recorded for later albums.

I don’t think it’s new, but I came across Rockstar Games’ The Italian Job for PSone. It’s nothing near as good a game as GTA3, in fact, it looks like it was a practice run at GTA3, but for anglophiles and fans of the film, it’s a treat, especially for those of us without a PS2. The best part is that it’s only $10 and the only background music is that “Self-Preservation Society” song.

And finally, the Royal Tenenbaums Criterion Collection DVD was released, it was only $17 at Best Buy, and I haven’t watched it all yet, but there’s schloads of bonus material and the packaging is incredible.
