Ride scooters, play the ponies

2slow2go has organized a ride out to Arlington Park this Sunday, July 20th. General admission is 6 bucks including a race guide and general parking is free. You can bring food in or buy food and beer there. You can not bring liquor or glass in. Bring money if you want to gamble.
Meet at the Starbucks Coffee on the corner of Lawrence and Broadway (Uptown Chicago) at 11:45am, ride leaves at noon. We can meet up with westside or surburban peeps somewhere along Foster or Northwest Highway.

Chicago Moped Army BBQ

Ryan let us know that the Moped Army has started a Chicago chapter, and they’ve planned their first event at 1:00 on August 2nd in Wicker Park (flyer). “Bring some food and your ‘ped (working or non). Interested non-owners are welcome too. Meet other Chitown ‘pedders, talk shop, fix up your ‘ped and cruise around town. Help decide on a name for our Chicago branch. Residents of Chicago and other outlying counties are welcome. For more information contact chimopeds@burntmail.com, Curt Cameruci or Chris Reilly.”

Chi “Vespa” Mangia le Mele

I came across this one afternoon while doing research on “RFP Search Engines” for work. It’s a small but interesting collection of Vespa commercials in Italian and English. Unfortunately, they’re .wmv files, so they only work with Windows Media Player. I think my favorite is VESPAPAP.

The Shifties Rock us on TV

ipodicon.gifScooterist Jeff Tudor’s band, The Shifties, are going to tape their segment for Chicago’s favorite dance show, Chic-A-Go-Go this Saturday night (July 12) at 6pm at CANTV studios. 322 S. Green St., Chicago. If you’ve never been to a taping, go, it’s like Soul Train, but hosted by a hand puppet and Miss Mia, and they play really diverse music and anyone who shows up dances, some people dress up in costumes, people bring their kids, it’s a blast.
In the meantime, check out the Shifties’ Can’t Go On (mp3).

Wilderbeat

Finally, a rally for Mods without the nusiance of scooters: Wilderbeat, in Port Burwell, Ontario, Canada, August 15-17, a mere CA$75 at the gate. For CA$22 you could see the Rolling Stones, Flaming Lips, AC/DC, and Rush play in Toronto on July 30.
