Windy City Classic 2022

The Inaugural
Midwest Classic Scooter Rally

The Midwest Scooter Classic is a new scooter rally for vintage motorscooters that will rotate to a different Midwestern City each year. The inaugural 2022 event will be hosted in Chicago on May 13-15 2022.

The Windy City Classic is hosted by some of the organizers of the legendary Slaughterhouse rally (in its 28th year this Labor Day!) but it'll be a little different: it's in the spring, it's for vintage scooters only, and it'll take place mainly on the south side and south suburbs. We're hoping to see lots of old and new friends from around the midwest and beyond, before we hand it over to a different city for 2023.

Registration is $15 and includes a patch, decal, and button. Please note the Midwest Classic is for vintage scooters only. Modern scooters are not welcome and registrations will not be refunded. This is not a political statement, or a judgement of modern scooters or scooterists. There are events that welcome all scooterists, and there are others that are more specific. If you wear an MLP fursuit to Pretty Heroes, you will be shunned. Don't ask how I know.

Itinerary:

Friday May 13:

Get to town, park/unload, gas up!

7pm: Registration/Meet and Greet at the Cove Lounge

10:30pm: Midnight Ride leaves from the Cove Lounge - ride downtown Chicago the way the locals do: at night, when we don't have to deal with traffic! We will traverse the Boulevards and several of Chicago's neighborhoods.  Arrive with a full tank, Chicago is big. This will be long for a city ride.

Saturday May 14:

Breakfast on your own (free at the hotel or there are several great places within easy riding distance from the hotel)

11am: Saturday Day Ride leaves from the Best Western.  We will be riding south along the Lakefront.  Arrive gassed up!

6pm: Ride to Blue Island leaves from the Best Western.  20-30 miles.

7pm: Berryoke, Awards, Good times at Rock Island Public House: Berryoke is the best karaoke around, hosted by Jason (Mayday SC) and Mary Berry.  RIPH is a welcoming place with great cocktails, usually a pop-up kitchen, and a great patio for outdoor hangs. Downtown Blue Island features several other food/drink options.

12am: Ride back to Hyde Park. There may be more than one, depending how the night is going…

Sunday May 15:

Say goodbye until next year.  Stragglers are welcome to hang out, we may plan an impromptu ride or group meal.

More Info:

If you have more questions about the rally, are unsure if your bike is "Vintage," or just want to tell everyone how excited you are about going to an actual rally again, visit the Windy City Classic Facebook group. Please check that link throughout the rally for any last minute announcements or changes.

Ride safely, be responsible, respect Covid restrictions and regulations, respect other scooterists, and follow the rules, or don't come.

Arrive early and be ready at posted ride start times with a full tank of gas.

Ensure your bike is in running/safe/legal condition. We highly recommend a full-face helmet, armored jacket, jeans, sturdy shoes/boots, and gloves. At a bare minimum, please wear a helmet, eye protection, and sturdy shoes. Stay hydrated and sunscreened.

Please familiarize yourself with these Motorcycle Safety Foundation guidelines for group riding, Illinois motorcycle laws and Chicago scooter parking laws. All motorscooters including 50cc models ARE considered motorcycles in Illinois and must follow all motorcycle laws. Pay close attention to pre-ride directions about blocking, formations, and regrouping locations. We will do our best to keep the group together, provide clear directions and route/contact info, and offer help to breakdowns.

You will be required to sign a waiver to participate, if we don't have your waiver or registration fee, you're not participating in the rally. By participating in this event, you've chosen to accept accountability for any risks incurred. The individual organizers, sponsors, and venues have all volunteered to host this event for the good of the vintage scootering community and accept no liability for damage, theft, loss, or injury on behalf of the rally.
