The Italian Job, botched

Nothing to do with scooters, really, but as you surely know, the “new” (i.e. overpriced and lacking everything that was good about the “old”) “Minis” are coming on the tails of the “new” “Vespas” and “new” “Beetles,” and what better way to hype them than to poorly remake one of my favorite movies with a “coincidental” marketing tie-in. What are the odds that someone would decide to re-make The Italian Job the very same year that the new Minis came out? And Michael Caine, who’s like 60 now, can still kick Marky Mark’s ass.

Vinyl scooter figure

2SB reader James Ballot writes, “For the person who feels that $145 is a fair price to pay for a vinyl toy as long as it looks like a Vespa, we submit for your approval: Estate Sam Lee & Scooter.” He’s got our style of writing down pat, doesn’t he?
Actually, Kid Robot has some really cool stuff, some of it more reasonably priced.

Scooter Rally Calendar

John Stafford’s put together a pretty comprehensive list of rallies at
twostrokesmoke.com (no relation). If you’re looking for Galewood 2K2 info (it’s supposed to be here) it’s not really planned yet, I’ll post it ASAP. If you’re wondering why The Unforgiven are hosting a tribute to the Clash’s drummer on April 20, so am I. And yes, there will be a new Hodgehead list, sooner or later.

Bajaj Chetak pricing deadline

Matthew reminded us today that the first US-market Bajaj Chetaks are due to arrive in about two weeks. The MSRP is going up from $1800 to $2000 (equal price to the Bajaj Legends) on February 1st, but pre-orders will be accepted at $1800 until Thursday. Keep in mind that with added charges it’s a bit more than that, but I’m still excited and I can’t wait to crash-test Matthew’s.
