The downside of scooter popularity: The University of Wisconsin in Madison is charging $55 for an annual parking pass and limiting parking to designated spaces. It makes you long for the days when you were the only outcast weirdo in town with a Vespa. Still, at least there is a clearly-defined, legal place to park, unlike, say, in Chicago.

Of course, they’ll sell more passes then they have spaces available with the knowledge that someone not wanted to be late for a class, or miss an exam will be forced into a ticket that they’ll have to pay in order to have their grades proccessed at the end of the quarter. Universities have been pulling the money making scam for years.
I used to work for a University that wanted to charge me $40 a month for parking. (How do they justify charging their own employees to park on their property?) I wouldn’t have anything to do with it. I bought a scooter and parked it on the sidewalk under my office window. That was 8 years ago, and I’ve been a fanatical scooterist ever since.
