BBC America unveiled a new identity this week, designed by mOcean. The new logo is a modified “mod target,” aka “Royal Air Force rondel,” let’s hope they have better luck with that than Lambretta Clothing. A new series of channel IDs include this one, featuring a euro-spec Vespa P200E (right-click to download) parked at a biker bar. (Thanks, Steve. Video and still: mOcean.)

The commercial was filmed in the desert near Palmdale, CA. We were going to rent them a scooter for the shoot, but the prop master wound up buying the scooter. The P200 was a clean Italian import consigned from a local collector. We did rent lights and mirrors to make it look mod. Guess they took the mirrors off. Note that the front rack is the type made for a newer Bajaj Chetak.
I thought the ad would be more effective with something more “vintage,” but it warmed my heart to see that it wasn’t a Stella or Bajaj, and that it at least had a euro taillight. If it’d had a DOT tailight, it’d have ruined the whole spot.
