Last year, we reported on an MIT modular folding rental-scooter concept. It was a promising idea, sort of like a more space- and fuel-efficient iGo, and it’s good to hear that RoboScooter is headed into production.

Great idea! Free transportation rental! It’ll never fly in the US. You can’t provide a free service with-out it being taken advantage of. Also, there should be some sort of registration with a safety class or something like that. The last thing we need is inexperienced riders on what they perceive to be a toy in the middle of urban traffic.
I think the most telling phrase in that press release is “moving TOWARD commercial production”. When I moved my naked zuma project from a bar napkin to actually stripping all the bodywork off, the project moved TOWARD final completion. But I have a feeling it’s a long way off. It’d be cool if they pull it off though. It’s a nice design.
