Kuala Kangsar Vespa Carnival
Screw Vegas, next year I’m going to this. Those Malaysians know how to doll up a scooter. Thanks, Lu$, the man from L.U.C.R.E.
Piaggio signs China deal
Some italian company called Piaggio has signed an agreement with mighty Chinese motorcycle concern Zongshen, casting doubt across the motorsports world about the future quality of Zongshen’s products.
Vespa P125X FS in Galewood
Grace is selling a 1979 Vespa P125x. cheap cheap!
Brooklynbretta vs NYPD
Patrick Nitro (warning: MIDI!) let us know that the
Brooklynbretta site currently features a short film (warning: long download!) featuring a chase between a Brooklynbretta customer and a NYC cop on a NYPD Lambretta. I have a feeling this film was somewhow related to NYPD’s decision to outfit their officers with Piaggio BV200s.
Scott Baxter’s Italian Punk Corner
Italiophile Scott Baxter surfs italian music sites so you don’t have to. His latest discoveries: DiscoRevolver and StudioDavoli.
New London to New Brighton
The Parka Run. Someone doesn’t understand that “Vintage Only” and “please be able to do 45mph or faster” is a contradiction.
The Descendents rock us
The Descendent’s new album is pretty hott. And the new(ish) TSOL album is actually better than most of their old stuff. Thanks to Lu$ and Rob for the tips.
positively charged Mod ions
Courtesy of Slatch, LoopNYC’s Mod Refrigerator Magnets, available from PinUpGirl. Apparently you can spell any Mod phrase without a “W.”
AKIRA BIKE!
One of the first bikes to spur my interests in motorcycles was fictional: Tetuso’s Neo Fukuoka from the film Akira. Scott Baxter found the link, I have no idea what it says, but if they’re producing them, sign me up.
We’re back!
Wow, 2sb really dropped the ball, between the computer problems, work, the stomach flu, the complete and utter destruction of Arsenal Football Club, and whatever other excuses I can come up with, I haven’t posted for almost a month. Lucky for you, I have a nice big backlog of posts to get us back on track. Plus, I might actually post the Music Poll results eventually, and Galewood rally info is coming soon. Mark your calendars for Memorial Day Weekend. Thanks for your patience.
NYC Cops on BV200’s
The NYC Police department has ordered a batch of 300 BV200’s, and should be recieving them just about now.
Maybe they’ll be a little more friendly to the local scootersists.
Lake Erie Loop
Bill Murar has set up a Yahoo Group about the Lake Erie Loop, and now has registration forms available. The event is May 14-16, starting in Wellington, Ohio, travelling clockwise around Lake Erie. The ride benefits Aluminum Cans For Burned Children.
“Peugeot” bites it Again
NH-scooters.com reports that Cycleworld has stopped importing Peugeots. Peugeot’s official site has never acknowleged Cycleworld as the US importer, and from what we can tell, they’ve been importing just an occasional handful behind Peugeot’s (and probably the DOT’s) back all along. I’ve only seen two on the road, both grey-market models that didn’t meet US standards. It’s a shame because they’re great bikes, but don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Janklow to serve 100 days
South Dakota Congressman (and ex-attorney general and governor) Bill Janklow was sentenced to only 100 days in jail last week for killing motorcyclist Randy Scott, while speeding and running a stop sign near Trent, SD on August 16 2003. Janklow had been served 13 speeding tickets since 1990, but argued that, being a diabetic, his low blood sugar had affected his judgement in the fatal crash. Motorcyclists across the country are outraged that a well-connected politician known for his tough stance on law-and-order was given such a light sentence, and several biker groups have threatened to boycott Sturgis in protest. Janklow has since resigned from the House of Representatives.
