Mod Chicago Weekender
June 10-12 is the Mod Chicago Smashing Time festival, 3 days of Mod music, and a scooter show at Delilah’s Saturday Afternoon. That’s three weekends in a row (Galewood-Suburban Cowboy-Smashing Time) with big-time scooter events HERE IN TOWN. And after all that, you still have the Screw City Rally (in Chicago, for some reason) and Slaughterhouse to look forward to. You lucky, lucky, Chicago scooterists.
Suburban Cowboy
No details yet, but Chad has announced the dates for the Suburban Cowboy Rally (June 4-6Oe the weekend after Galewood). It’ll be a combo city/camping rally. I didn’t get the artwork, until I was at Tractor Supply in South Bend and saw the Wrangler “Cowboy Cut” pocket tag.

Mayor Abalos Scooter Cup
Going through some old emails, I realized I never posted this: Tom Shaddox sent a link to Scooter Road Racing in Mandaluyong, Philippines. Sweet! Check out some of those race bikes! I think I see Mykrrr in the background.
Mmmm, exhaust bacon!
For those of you gearing up for the Galewood rally, it’s bonus points if you fry bacon while you ride. in other news, 2SB Labs is perfecting the world’s first bacon-scented 2-stroke oil.
FASTER (the movie) comes to Chicago, DVD
The motorcycle racing documentary FASTER, narrated by Ewan McGregor, has been the talk of the web for months, but the film, shot during the 2001-02 MotoGP season, has only been seen in one-off showings in a handful of cities. It’s coming to Chicago on May 16th at the Vic Theater, and will be released on DVD on June 1st. ChiScooterList is planning a ride, I’ll post the info here when it’s finalized.
2SB visits the 2004 Cycle World International Motorcycle Show
Last year’s Cycle World Show suprised us with a huge array of new scooters, and after being shuffled out at closing time, we made a point of getting an earlier start this year. Patrick at Baron Von Scoot set me up with his extra free pass, Tracie and Jennifer printed some $1 off coupons from the Loop’s site, and we were on our way to Rosemont. After finding a much luckier parking spot than last year, we waited in a long line for tickets, where the Loop coupons were rejected. At least they didn’t charge for Milena.

Barefoot in the workshop
With all the badmouthing of Vietnamese-restored scooters, Huy’s Scooter of Vietnam was probably worried about their reputation. So they put together a website to tell their side of the story. A look at the site
seems to reinforce the idea that Vietnamese-restored scooters are built out of Bondo in cluttered sweatshops by shirtless teenagers in flip-flops. If ScootRS works this way, at least they have the common sense to hide it from us on their site.
Another letter from Nigeria.

Brooklynbretta vs NYPD
Patrick Nitro (warning: MIDI!) let us know that the
Brooklynbretta site currently features a short film (warning: long download!) featuring a chase between a Brooklynbretta customer and a NYC cop on a NYPD Lambretta. I have a feeling this film was somewhow related to NYPD’s decision to outfit their officers with Piaggio BV200s.
