A documentary about the 2006 Lake Erie Loop (watch trailer) will debut in August at the Overlook Park Short Film Festival. (See also: POCphil’s story about doing the Lake Erie Loop on a pink Genuine Buddy 125.)

Open track day at Norway
Ryan tells us there will be an open trackday this Saturday (July 8, 2006) at Norway Kart Track (the map looks vague, but you’ll see it). The track opens at 9am, and $30 buys you track time all day for scooters, pocketbikes, motards, and such. Safety wire is not required, but lights must be taped over. This is a perfect opportunity to try your bike out on a track.
Rossi Camel Yamaha replica Aerox
Not yet available in Colin Edwards’ number 5, nor even available in the U.S., the Yamaha Aerox Race Replica is done up like Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP Camel Yamaha. Well, minus an overt Camel logo, you know, for the kids, because a 2-year-old would never recognize that typeface and colors. (Thanks to Motoblog for the link.)
Lake Erie Loop 2006: POC Phil’s report
Here’s Phil Waters’ report on this year’s Lake Erie Loop, a low-displacement motorcycle race around Lake Erie to benefit the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Foundation:
Any scooter or bike 200cc or under can compete. Bikes over 200cc can participate in the non-timed “tourist class.” All proceeds go to help burned kids, so you can feel good about breaking the law and destroying your scooter or bike. There were 18 contestants this year. We proved that scooters posed a real threat, 5 scooters were entered and ALL of them completed the course with 2 of us taking home trophies.
Norway Kart track reopened to cycles, scooters
Our first post on 2001’s newly-blogified 2strokebuzz was about a MASS practice session at Norway Kart track. The track, then a favorite for racers and spectators for its layout and proximity to Chicago, was later closed to motorcycles and scooters, and (correct me if I’m wrong Ryan) then closed entirely. Apparently they’ve re-opened, and CIMR held a practice day there today for motards. In other local racing news, MiniMotoTT is organizing track days at Michiana and Rolling Green with possible races in 2007. Thanks to Ryan for the info.
Organized Drag Racing
at Scooter Weekend Meinerzhagen
A sign of scooter rallies to come in the U.S.? I could only hope. Also, I could only hope to not stick out like the creepy old guy hanging out near the playground.
From the Scooter Center scootermatic news letter:
The Whitsun bank holiday weekend is over and so is a superlative Scooter weekend! Despite of two accidents on Saturday morning it was a great weekend with lots of joy for everyone – custom scoots, racing, sprinting and meeting great people! Thanks a lot goes to our customer MCE Sport Matthiesen for the invitation as well as for the properly organised Run. Rossi wheelies scooter, avant Pays-Bas
Video of MotoGP heartthrob/champion Valentino Rossi wheelie-ing his custom Yamaha BW (Zuma), helmetless, before last Junes’ GP race in Assen, Belgium. Rossi, needless to say, won that week. I guess if anyone is allowed to wheelie helmetless, it’s Valentino Rossi. Thanks for the link, Brooke!
Smallwood rocks USGPRU
Though official results and standings have not yet been posted, Former scooter racer/Supersonic Scooters proprietor/righteous dude Scott Smallwood would seem to be leading the USGPRU 125 class after a second place finish at the season opener, and a first-place finish this weekend at Summit Point. Go Scott!
Israeli scooter racing photos
From Brooke: The Israeli Scooter League got underway last week, here are some photos.
Dave Tooley and the Wildcat Lambretta
Dave Tooley raced Lambrettas in the early seventies for the Rafferty Newman “Wildcat” team in the UK, most notably the 158cc-model that dominated the 160-and-under class. Dave’s site contains great scooter racing photos, memoirs, scans of period magazines and advertisements, and technical info about Les Rafferty’s Wildcat Lambretta race scooters. And unlike most UK scooter sites, there’s not an animated navigation button or mod target to be found. Well-done!

Scott Smallwood 2SB interview (from 2003)
In honor of Scott Smallwood’s retirement from SuperSonicScooters, we present an interview with Scott, written by David Lucash, that originally ran in 2strokeBuzz on September 19, 2003:
Three weeks or so ago I was killing layover time in the Duty Free shop of the Montreal-Dorval International Airport. While balancing two cartons of Export A’s and giant bars of Toblerone, I spotted a familiar face checking out the bottles of fine liquor. Sure enough, it was Scott Smallwood of Supersonic Scooters of Columbus, Ohio.
He had some time to kill as well, so we made our way to an airport bar for some coffee. Within an hour the coffee turned into vodka tonics and our conversation turned into a question and answer session regarding Scott’s endeavors.
