Portland’s Rose Festival’s dropped Amerivespa as a sanctioned event this week because of its sponsorship from Suicide Girls, a porn site. Suicide Girls had planned on operating a kissing booth at the rally site and donating memberships for the raffle. Here’s the story from the Portland Tribune, where you can mock Robert Volz’ assertion that he’s never visited a porn site.

X guitarist Billy Zoom’s 1964 Allstate is up for sale on Ebay. With seven hours left, it’s at $3100 and hasn’t met reserve yet. That’s a lot of money for a 125 without a front shock, although it looks pretty nice and it comes with a Zoom-autographed manual and a Wild Gift LP. Plus, it was BILLY friggin’ ZOOM’S SCOOTER!

Nothing to do with scooters, really, but as you surely know, the “new” (i.e. overpriced and lacking everything that was good about the “old”) “Minis” are coming on the tails of the “new” “Vespas” and “new” “Beetles,” and what better way to hype them than to poorly remake one of my favorite movies with a “coincidental” marketing tie-in. What are the odds that someone would decide to re-make The Italian Job the very same year that the new Minis came out? And Michael Caine, who’s like 60 now, can still kick Marky Mark’s ass.

2SB reader James Ballot writes, “For the person who feels that $145 is a fair price to pay for a vinyl toy as long as it looks like a Vespa, we submit for your approval: Estate Sam Lee & Scooter.” He’s got our style of writing down pat, doesn’t he?
Actually, Kid Robot has some really cool stuff, some of it more reasonably priced.
