Alright, this is it, the United States’ first and most important game of the 2002 World Cup. Here’s my prediction: The eternal pessimist, I say we’ll hold a scoreless draw until halftime, Portugal will score shortly after the half, we’ll fight hard for a McBride or Beasley equalizer with five minutes left, then go into defesive mode. Then Agoos or Regis will lose the plot and kick someone in the box with a minute left, giving Portugal a penalty kick and us a red card and a 2-1 loss. But allow me to dream of a win (literally) for the next six hours. See you at 4am CDT. I hope this crap washes off my head.

Another proud day for Lambretta owners: the name continues to grace everything but scooters. Someone needs to tell them that Lambrettas were made in Italy, not the UK. And why are there a dozen photos of men in underwear, but only drawings of the women’s kit?

Thanks to coudal for the link today, I’ll help myself to this awe-inspiring link to ’80s biker magazine ads from Sharpeworld. Boobies, leather, weed, and all, those ’80s bikers sure had something going. This one’s my favorite.

For those of you whiny bastards that don’t care about the World Cup, Joel Kuester of Milwaukee sent some links to his Lego designs on brickshelf.com: a diagram showing how to build a Lego P200 and a scene featuring some Lego Mod scoots vs. some nuns. Nice work, Joel!

England and Sweden each netted a goal in a fun game to watch. England’s came from Arsenal defender Sol Campbell, and they held the lead until deep into the second half. A decent result, but maybe not good enough to get them through the “Group of Death.”
Argentina already tallied a win over Nigeria, damn that Batistuta, but the dayglo-kitted Africans sure gave them a hard time.
I was going to stay tonight up to watch Mexico and Croatia at 1:30, but I don’t know…if…I…zzzzzzzzzz.

A recent book claims that Osama Bin Laden was behind the Algerian terrorists’ plan to attack American players at France98. Luckily for David Regis and Jeff Agoos, the plan was thwarted and they’ll have another chance to stink up the U.S. team in this tournament. Sad, but true: Bin Laden’s an Arsenal fan.
